What is the Squash the Bed Bugs branded game?

Squash the Bed Bugs is a branded bug squashing game that runs in a web browser. Bugs crawl in from all four edges of a bed-themed play area, and players tap or click each one before it escapes. When the 60 seconds are up, the game shows their score, best combo and accuracy.

The rules fit in one sentence, so a visitor can start without a demo. The pace builds as the minute goes on: bugs show up more often and move faster. In the final ten seconds the timer turns red and the screen edges pulse, which keeps the finish tense.

The bed bug theme fits pest control, bedding and hotel brands directly. For any other brand, the bug can be swapped for a mascot or product image while the tap-to-squash play stays the same. Your title, colors and messages go on top.

  • Combos up to x3squash fast and each hit is worth more

Why this branded game works at events

Short rounds, simple rules and a pace that builds. Here is what is built into the game and why it suits a busy booth.

Builds from calm to busy

A new bug appears about every 0.95 seconds at the start and every 0.38 seconds at the end. The most bugs allowed on screen at once climbs from 4 to 11 over the minute.

Rewards fast hands with combos

Squash bugs less than a second apart to build a combo. Five in a row doubles each hit to 20 points, and ten in a row triples it to 30.

Gives players a reason to go again

The result screen shows bugs squashed, best combo, accuracy and escaped bugs. It also saves each player's best score on their device and flags a new best. Play Again skips the instructions.

Forgiving on a phone

The tap area around each bug is larger than the bug itself, so fingers do not have to be exact. A miss costs nothing, and a bug that escapes takes no points away.

How to play Squash the Bed Bugs

  1. Press start

From the menu, press start. A short instruction screen shows the rules, then a 3, 2, 1, GO countdown begins.

  2. Squash the bugs

Bugs crawl in from every edge. Tap or click each one before it runs off the screen. Every squash leaves a splatter and scores points.

  3. Beat your best

After 60 seconds, the result screen shows your score, best combo and accuracy. Press Play Again to go straight back in.
